THE GIFT OF CONFESSION: ABRIDGED EDITION IN QUESTION AND ANSWER FORMAT

Fr Michael de Stoop

ISBN- 0980293669,

Paperback, 70 pages. $9.95

This is the abridged edition of a book Fr Michael de Stoop’s original work entitled, The Gift of Confession: 25 Benefits for You. Since it is written in question and answer format, it enables those who have queries or uncertainties about this sacrament to gain an immediate reassurance in the benefits this sacrament affords. Fr Michael answers the frequently asked questions about this sacrament, such as, “Why do I need to confess my sins to a priest?” “But can’t God forgive me without this sacrament?” “What will the priest think of me if I confess this or that sin?” As he answers these, and many other questions, he does so in such a way that much assurance is received because he focuses on the many things we gain from this sacrament. This approach will help us to see that Sacrament of Reconciliation is indeed a great gift, not a burden. It is a welcome alternative to presenting this sacrament as the spiritual equivalent of a trip to the dentist!

“Given the fall off in recent years it is refreshing to find a book that urges people to take up again the practice of confessing their sins. Readers will be moved and convinced by the real spiritual benefits of Confession. These benefits go beyond the forgiveness of sins to the wider and perhaps, today, the more fundamental matter of reorienting ones life towards Christ. This is a book about God’s unfailing mercy.”

Most Rev B J Hickey, Archbishop of Perth

“The Gift of Confession is a timely and positive exposition of Church teaching regarding the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The rich theology of the sacrament expressed in a clear manner, invites the reader to a new appreciation of its integral place in the spiritual life of every Catholic. It is a valuable resource for religious educators as they communicate the life giving nature of this sacrament."
John Graham, Assistant Director Religious Education & Faith Services, Catholic Education Office, Lismore
