Miss Molly lives alone in the Australian bush, but one day her peaceful life is changed forever by the arrival of
two small, feathered friends. Miss Molly has never married and she has a lot to learn about bringing up a
family. Now, she has become a very busy person indeed. There is no time at all for her daily walks in the bush,
or even time to finish cleaning her little house. Poor Miss Molly finds her life has been turned upside down! But
she is happy.
COMMENT FROM LARRY BURN-
Director of Catholic Education, Ballarat
I was delighted to receive a copy of Meg, Mog and Miss Molly from Yvonne
Horsfield, a teacher in the Diocese of Ballarat. Yvonne has written a delightful
story which is beautifully illustrated by her son, Garth.
Schools have a responsibility to teach students to read as early as possible in
their education. A range of stimulating reading material is required to
support the reading program. Meg, Mog and Miss Molly is not just a
reader, but a story which will engage students at many levels and lead
them to a deeper respect for the natural world which is so much
needed in our time.
I hope that many young people will enjoy reading the story and
admiring the artwork. I thank Yvonne and congratulate her and I
am sure that many classrooms will resonate with Meg, Mog and Miss Molly.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR AND ILLUSTRATOR.
Yvonne Horsfield grew up in the
Dandenong Ranges, surrounded by
pristine bushland. She awoke each
morning to the penetrating sound
of the bell-birds, which are sadly no
longer to be heard. Her love of the
Australian bushland and its creatures
are reflected in many aspects of her
life. She lives in a 3 three acre
bushland setting near Ballarat.
Garth Horsfield also inherited a love
of living creatures and an awe of
Nature’s creations. From an early age
he loved to sketch from reality as
well as create from his imagination.
One of his favorite artists was
Michael Leunig, who can claim some
influence over the wry humour
evident in the sketches. Garth also
writes music and has been a graphic
artist for over 8 years.
