Yvonne Horsfield grew up in the Dandenong Ranges, surrounded by pristine bushland. She awoke each morning to the penetrating sound of the bell-birds, which are sadly no longer to be heard. Her love of the Australian bushland and its creatures are reflected in many aspects of her life. She lives in a three acre bushland setting on the
outskirts of Ballarat. A teacher by profession, Yvonne has worked for many years as an Education Officer at both Sovereign Hill and the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery, creating innovative programs for students of all ages. She presently works for the Catholic Education Department.
Garth Horsfield, Yvonne’s son, also inherited a love of living creatures and an awe of Nature’s creations. From an early age he loved to sketch from reality as well as create from his imagination. One of his favourite artists was Michael Leunig, who can claim some influence over the wry humour evident in the sketches. Garth also writes and performs his own music and has been a professional graphic artist for many years.
